We start our week with a rousing lecture on the history of blood typing. Please make sure all assignments from last week are turned in...design an offspring, karyotype, and reading strat on genetic engineering. Tuesday we will go further in our study of blood identifying types and reasons for clotting.We will work on punnett square sheets on blood types due for Thursday. Study tonight for Wednesdays Quiz on human genetics.Following the Quiz we will lecture Rh factors. Thursday blood lab will give you a chance to see how a persons blood type is determined.

AP BIOLOGY
Monday we will lecture enzymes ... the topic you worked with independently in Fridays web quest. There are some review questions that go along. Tuesday organelle quiz and lab Mr Enzyme to the rescue. Wednesday will be potato catalase lab. Thursday" senior skip Day" will be a lab work day to wrap up enzymes.

This week we wrap up with Punnett squares. Test will be Wednesday. Monday and Tuesday we will continue our practice on the different types of squares. We will end the week with an introduction to humans as subjects for genetic study. Have a good one!

Polymers start our week with some short labs and research. Reports will be due on Friday. Chapter test is scheduled for Thursday on chapters 1-3. We will review in class on Wednesday.

Welcome back. Hope you had a great vacation and are refreshed and ready for your exams. Thats what we will be doing for the most part this week. On Tuesday we will complete our manditory writing prompt for the marking period. It will be graded and due on Wednesday. Wednesday will be an exam study guide work day. We will check how well you did on Thursday when we cover topics that will be included on the exam. Friday our review focus will be DNA emphasis on replication and protein synthesis. Monday,the last day before exams, will be our jeopardy review

AP Biology
Welcome back. We start our week with some echinoderm lecture. Which leads directly into dissection lab. That covers Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will be an exam study guide which you will work on in teams. Friday we will focus our review on any topics you have questions on as well as check the study guide together. Monday the last day before exams will be Jeopardy review. Start studying early alittle each night will make a big difference.

BIOLOGY
Hope you all had a happy and restful Thanksgiving. We are going to pick up right where we left off...PHOTOSYNTH#ESIS.Tuesday we will discuss the why and how for each of the light cycle steps and do the same for the light independent on Tuesday. A work sheet will wrap us up and hopefully reinforce any concepts that are still fuzzy.
Thursday and Friday will be respiration discussion with a lab tossed in for good measure.

AP BIOLOGY
We are smack dab in the middle of our evolution topic. Tuesday we will talk about Hardy Weinberg and learn how to apply the concept to a population. Wed will be a fishy lab that supports H.W.there will be a practice problem sheet and lots of calculations and graphing.Sounds like fun doesn't it? Thursday looks like lecture on behaviors and a lab if there is time.If not the lab shifts to Friday.

We are zipping through one of your favorite topics...Genetics. Monday we will lecture on probability of events and try some practice problems. Tuesday will be a test on PunnettSquares and Probability. Lecture is moving Beyond Classical Genetics into genes that don't follow the rules. This week we have one lab on DNA fingerprinting scheduled.

This week ends the marking period. Hopefully everyone turned in their cell portfolios. You'll be happy to know that we are still working on cells. Transport and the cell cycle will be our topics for the week. Due for Friday will be a cell cycle lab report and work sheets on the processes of mitosis and meiosis. Quiz will probably be Thursday.

AP Biology
We'll begin Monday with the cell cycle. A brief lab simulation on stage identification will follow. Tuesday will be meiosis...stage identification and comparison to mitosis. Later in the week we will focus on DNA composition and discovery. Photo 51 movie will reinforce this topic.

Onward to chapter 3...Cells are probably a more familiar topic and that is how we will end our 1st marking period. Monday we will still be struggling through the CDT testing so our intro lecture to cells will be Tuesday. Wednesday we will talk organelles getting us ready for our lab on Thursday and Friday. I have a quiz scheduled for Thursday so be ready!

AP BIOLOGY.
We are leaving cells behind and moving into our 2 most difficult topics...photosynthesis and respiration. This week is photosynthesis. Lecture Monday and Tuesday followed by Pigment lab on Wednesday.Remember Lab Notebooks are due on Friday this week!

Sorry for all the interuptions last week. Unfortunately this week doesn't look much better.Our topic is the chemistry of life. and we begin our week with a quiz and lab on the properties of water. Lab report will be due Wednesday. Tuesday we will finish off the lab and introduce Organic chem. That lecture will cover Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday will probably be a worksheet daythat will carry over onto Friday.

AP Biology.Because of my unexpected kidney stone our schedule sure has been a mess. Hopefully Things can get back to normal soon.We are working with cells again this week with a focus of transport and enzymes as catalysts. Welcome to the last week of September and a topic that's new to our bio course ...Biochem. Hopefully you have some background from 8th grade but just in case we will be starting at the beginning with the periodic table and study of matter. Worksheet on Bohr models due Monday.Tuesday we will discuss properties of water and its' importance to life. Lab on properties of water QWednesday report due Thursday. Thursday will also be quiz day! After the quiz we will attempt to balance some chemical equations which includes a worksheet due Friday.

We are working on human genetics...This week we are spending a lot of time in lab working on constructing a karyotype and researching the condition as well as creating and drawing "your offspring". I'd like to have a quiz Wednesday if possible. We will continue lecture on twin stdies and the nature verses nuture debate. Everything will continue after our refreshing Easter Break.

We are now masters of all types of punnett squares! Mondays Punnett square races will give you a chance to compete against other punnett square pros as well as get you ready for Tuesdays Test. Our focus for the end of the week will shift to humans as subjects for genetic study. Wednesday we will lecture and Thursday will be a lab on human trait inheritance. Friday we will lecture techniques used to study humans.

AP Bio is working through evolution.
Monday will be lecture on the patterns of evolution. Tuesday you will learn some Hardy Weinberg equilibrium calculations and practice with worksheets. Wednesday is a "Fishy Frequency Lab" that actually involves eating. Most of you will be going to Surgery Live on Thursday so the folks who stay behind will have another Hardy Weinberg sheet to work on. Friday lecture on patterns of behavior and we will wrap up the week with a beaks of finches lab.

This week we start one of my favorite topics of the year... Genetics/heredity.
Monday will be a lecture on early theories on how offspring formed. Some of them are pretty creative to say the least. Tuesday we begin probability and Punnett squares.Square are fun and can be used to determine the chance of certain traits in offspring. Wednesday we will practice solving squares with worksheets.Thursday and Friday will be a probability lab involving hundreds of penny tosses. So be prepared.

This week in 10th grade Biology we will begin the week by starting a lecture on meiosis. This will last over the first two days of the week. Monday will focus on the differences between mitosis and meiosis and Tuesday the students will receive information about the different processes that occur in males and females. Tuesday the students will receive a bell ringer to review the notes from the previous day. On Wednesday we will be moving on to talk a little bit about cancer and the processes that are affected by it. They will complete a computer WebQuest on cancer on that day and that should give them a good understanding of what goes on when cancer infects cells. On Thursday the teacher will finish with any additional material that is on the test. After that is done the students will compete for bonus points in a review game. Friday will be the test that will include the information on cancer, mitosis and meiosis.

AP Bio
Our week starts with a bang...cell test Monday. From there and for the rest of the week we will explore the pathways of photosynthesis and respiration. Don't forget lab notebooks are due on Wednesday with all 4 cell labs completed. They must include conclusions.

This week in 10th grade Biology we will begin the week by going over the test the students took last week. After we go over the test on Tuesday we will wrap up the topic with a 30 minute video wrap up. The students will be starting a similar topic to what we did the past few weeks... Mitosis is the reproduction of one cell into two daughter cells with the same genetic material. Students will learn about this process and the other processes that can influence it in a thing called the cell cycle. The cell cycle is basically tells us each step the cell takes to replicate itself. Over the first two days of the week the students will be lectured about mitosis and the cell cycle. They will be provided with materials to help them with studying this material along with ample opportunities to show comprehension of the material (class work and bell ringers). The students will be lectured on Thursday as well, but the topic will be expanded to talk more about the limitations of cell division, cancer and checkpoints in the cell cycle. Friday will be used as a laboratory day to investigate mitosis and the different steps that are able to be viewed under the microscope.Worksheets and lab due at the end of the week.

AP Biology
We have covered all our lecture material on cells. There are still 2 more labs focusing on enzymes. Specifically catalase That will be done Wed and Thursday. Friday will be a review reinforcement day with Cell Test scheduled for next Monday 2/28.

This week in Bio the class will begin by finishing the potato lab we started on Friday. Wait till you see how the potatoes have changed!The finished report on diffusion will be due Tuesday. Lecture for the week will cover our remaining transport topics . We are scheduled for our chapter test Friday so we will spend at least 2 days reviewing the parts of cells, theories and transport. Start studying a litle each night....there is a lot of material.

AP Biology
Monday will finish lecture on cellular organelles. We will spend some time labeling plant and animal cells and completing a reinforcement worksheet. Tuesday is the fractionation lab.Wednesday will be lecture on passive transport and set up of the osmosis activity. Results and calculations for this lab will be completed on Thursday. Friday 's lecture on active transport will include the dreaded sodium potassium pump so be prepared.

We will start our week finishing our lab on organelles and cells. Before the end of class
we will review in prep for tomorrow's QUIZ. On Tuesday, the students will have the quiz and then complete any parts of the lab that hasn't been finished to date.Lab report will be due Wednesday and must be finished for homework. Wednesday, after labs have been collected, students will have a chance to get creative working on an advertisement about cells. This is the last part of the cell folder. Completed folder project is due Friday. On Thursday lecture on the transport process of cells will begin and carry into Friday.Before the end of class Friday we will set up an osmosis lab using potato....results will be read on Monday next week.

Monday will be a work day with a worksheet on organic chem. There is also time to work on lab reports from the polymer labs. Our First test, chapters 1-3 will be Wednesday. Tuesday will start our new topic...Cells. We will start with theories on cell origins, work through organellelles, transport and reproduction. This will be Mr Millers site for the next few weeks. As you know you will be working with cells this week. Lecture is planned for Monday (which may be the only good day weather wise) If we have school tuesday lecture will continue and a work sheet will support what you have learned. Lab is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. It is a microscope lab that will start with Hooke and cork and work to view specific organelles. Quiz and lab reports are due on Friday.

Biology...Christmas is fast approaching. Between now and then we will be working with bacteria in both lab and lecture. We wil cover such topics as how to grow, name,and kill the bacteria finding out along the way if products live up to their antibacterial claims. It should be an eye opener. Bacterial quis isscheduled for Friday andTest will be next Wedneday(yes I know that's mean) Lab Report will be due next Monday.

AP BIOLOGY.... We are trying to finish Natural selection before break so this week will be loaded with both labs and lectures but no tests. I'm saving the test for Tuesday next week as agreed upon. Notebooks will also be due before Christmas. All I have to do is get the blasted elves moving!

Wow that vacation certainly flew by! Here we are back again and anxious to begin working with classification keys. Tuesday we will lecture and work through a prepared dicotomous key. Wednesday we will make our own key for the rare "button/noodle"critters. Thursday notes again on cladograms with a practice clade. Friday will start with a QUIZ and end with a review worksheet.

AP Bio...
Once again we will revisit gregor Mendel and Punnett Squares. Sorry to you folks in biotech. I'm confident that all of you have had lots of practice solving squares so we will only use Wednesday for practice. Thursday we will explore some unusual genetic situations in lecture. These break all of Mendels fundamental rules. Friday as per your request we will have our Punnett square Quiz.and finish notes.

Hopefully everyone has studied for todays test on fossils. It is all multiple choice so that should help. Our next topic is the science of classification...Taxonomy. I know it is mean but we will lecture history of classification tomorrow and Wed. No quiz or homework this week.

Ap Bio...we are continuing with DNA discussion. Monday will be lecture on mutations.we will move into Punnett squqres for Tuesday and end our short week with a quiz on DNA.

Hey Guys, it's almost Thanksgiving vacation...we can do it! This week will be spent wrapping up Evolution and fossils. By Tuesday everyone will have all notes for Fridays test. Wednesday and Thursday will be the wrap lab The most Intelligent Mammal. We will test to see if humans are the smartist animals. Thursday at least half the class will be for test review so start studying!

AP Bio,
DNA molecular structure,replication and protein synthesis will take us through to vacation.
Each day will be a little lecture followed by worksheet, lab, etc. I want to have a test before vacation so stay current with your work. Good news is no lab reports!

Monday will start our week with a lecture. We will introduce types of fossils and how they form. This will be followed up with a 2 day fossil lab that really is an eye opener. Thursday we will lecture fossil dating and work on a lab that demonstrates radioactive decay. Friday we will introduce geologic time and the break down of earths history. All labs for the week are due Friday. No quiz this week!

AP BIOLOGY
Monday will be a full day of lecture. Plan on covering binary fission and Meiosis. If there is time we will check cell cycle worksheets.Tuesday we will wrap u Meiosis with crossing over and differences in men and women. Test is scheduled for Thursday. Our next topic is Genetics so we will explore history of, composition and replication for the doulbe helix. Possible movie for Friday on Photo 51.

In order to give you a chance to bring the grades up...we will review Monday and have a test on the origin of life and evolutionary theories on Tuesday. Study the crossword and notes we took in class.
We are smack dab in the middle of a topic so it will continue as part of the new marking period. Both Earths geologic time scale and fossils have a lot of hands on activities. Most of them can be completed during class. Stay current or else it will be overwhelming!

AP Biology. After Tuesdays test we will leave photosynthesis and respiration behind and move into the more familiar topics of the cell cycle and meiosis. I would like the photosynthesis and respiration labs turned in by Friday this week.

We will start on Monday with a lecture /review on themes of biology and characteristics of life. It's a refresher so we will move quickly! Tuesday ...scientific method lecture followed by some worksheets. Thursday...lecture properties of water followed by a quick lab that may carry over to Friday. I always try to mix up each double period with labs worksheets presentations etc. so we don't have 2 periods of lecture. Having 2-3 labs a week means lots of reports so stay current!

We will continue or topic of human genetics focusing on blood types. Monday a worksheet on inbreeding in the royal family as a possible starting point for the mutation that caused Hemophelia. Tuesday we will lecture Rh factor and end class with some Punnett squares with blood types. This paper has to be finished for homework. Wednesday we will do the blood type lab activity. Report due by Friday. Thursday we will quiz on blood types and lecture additional types of inheritance. Friday we will focus on prebirth testing and genetic screening techniques.

After the intense anticipation, Punnett Squares finally start this week! Mondays lecture will introduce terms and techniques needed to solve squares leaving a little time for practice. We have a short topic for our short week...Virus and Immunity!We will hit the ground running with a full period lecture covering virus structure and life cycles. BIOLOGY...
Ho ho ho, we are anxiously waiting to see how much bacteria covers the cafeteria tables and nurses doorknob. We are knee deep in our study of one of my favorite topics...Prokaryotes, all of which must be done before Christmas. The entire week will be a mix of lecture and lab work starting with prepared slides on the shapes of bacterial cells on Monday. Tuesday we will Gram stain and identify our own bacteria as well as prepare our plates with antibacterial products. Wednesday quiz and lecture and Thursday we will identify zones of inhibition(hopefully) and evaluate our products for effectiveness. Friday we will finish off our lecture topics and hand in the completed lab reports. Sounds like a full week! Enjoy!

Monday is our Natural Selection Test! New topic is Bacteria and virus...we will be tying these topics together and finishing before Christmas. Our Lab is high tech ...using ENTEROTUBES to identify specific bacterial species. These tube combine 12 lab test in 1 culture tube..fast and accurate but alittle difficult to read. Tuesday will be 2 period lecture, Wednesday and Thursday will be combined lab and lecture. Friday will be quiz and finish off bacterial discussion. Have a good week.

We've finished our discussion of Taxonomy and you know what that means....TEST time!
I'm planning Jeopardy review for Monday and test for Tuesday. Be ready it's a killer!
Wednesday will start our new(and one of my favorites ) topics bacteria and virus. My goal is to finish with this topic before Christmas break so we have to move quickly. Three days of lecture (power point)will be needed to get ready for our bacterial growth lab.Prepare yourselves! We will culture our plates Friday so they have the weekend to grow and Monday 12/13 should start our lab!

Hopefully everyone had a great vacation and all the Meleagris gallopavo (turkey) you ate didn't cause you to forget of your knowledge of classification. I'm scheduling a quiz for Thursday just to make sure. The Quiz won't include Tuesdays lecture information on cladistics. (It's on power point)! Cladistics is one of the most difficult concepts of classifying so if you were absent for or just confused by the lecture let me know. Wednesday will be a worksheet and cladogram activity. With Thursday looking like review after the quiz, with test on Friday. All this is prone to change based on progress, assemblies etc.

AP Biology.
Hopefully you had a great vacation...but now you are back and the big day is at hand. The BIRD FLY OFF!!!! Oh the suspense is overwhelming. Who will win the grand prize? The activity was fun but I hope saw the underlying purpose and you are able to make the needed connections to natural selection and survival of the fittest. Tuesday we will review and patterns of selection and introduce Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. it's MATH so get ready! There is a bright spot... Wednesday's lab involves food which always make things more bearable.I'd like to toss in a quiz, to keep you focused on Thursday.While Friday will be a short lecture on speciation with some time to work on lab reports. BIOLOGY

Well, our discussions on evolution are a thing of the past ( HA HA ). Now it's time to impress me with what you have learned. Monday 11/16 will be Jeopardy review and Tuesday 11/17 is TEST DAY!!! Make use of the study guide I provided. Our new topic will be classification and will start with lecture on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we will learn how to use dichotomous keys and actually make our own. Monday 11/23 is our trip to Body World a movie on classification awaits you and the luckey sub that will cover my classes that day. Tuesday and Wednesday we will lecture Cladograms while trying our hand a interpreting them.

We have been working with the processes of replication, transcription and translation and are now ready for our test on thoses topics plus modern genetics/ biotechnology applications.

Monday 11/16 will be Jeopardy review and your opportunity to ask any questions you might have pertaining to Tuesdays big TEST. Evolution is our next topic and we will hit the ground running Wednesday with a lecture followed be a lab. This lecture / lab format will be used for the remainder of this week and next topics will include Biochemical evidence for evolution,Orgami Birds, Hardy Weinberg , and bird beaks. BIOLOGY
We ended last week looking at humans as the most evolved mammal. We have the opposable thumb lab to finish Monday before we move on to Charles Darwin and NATURAL SELECTION. This section has 2 labs that I think do a really good job demonstrating Natural selection in action.Completed lab reports will be due Tuesday,Wednesday and Friday for this weeks activities. Thursday looks like a good day for a QUIZ so be ready!

AP BIOLOGY
This week we go beyond Punnett Square and explore the make up of DNA. This by itself is quite an accomplishment but we aren't going to stop there. We will take the extra step and find how DNA ultimatelycopies itself and directs the cell in its' goal of protein production. Can you imagine how excited Mendel would have been to learn all this! Labs will include DNA extraction from cheek cells and somme paper model building to demonstrate replication, transcription and and translation.

Early theories of evolution will start our fun filled weektrying to make sense of the various ideas as to how different forms of life began.. Well you all survived "CYCLES" and can breathe a sigh of relief as we move into the more familiar topics of classical genetics. I'm planning a quiz for Tuesday just on Punnett so you can wow me with your square skills! Wednesdays Lecture will cover both classical outcomes of and genetic oddities associated with heredity. Thursday we turn our attention to DNA for at least 4 days we will delve into the mysteries of DnA including, but not limited to, replication and Synthesis,the steps that take us from DNA to protein. Bet you can't wait!

Hope you enjoyed the fossil activities from last week ...because we have more to look forward to this week. YAHOO!Once we leave fossils behind we'll be moving into evolution theories, patterns, and supports.These topics also have several activities. Since these are new activities I really can't judge how long they will take to complete so I'll let you know throughout the week when specifiic things are due.Quiz will be Thursday and that will be the end of grades for the 1st marking period.

The worst is almost over...only anaerobic respiration to cover. We'll complete this unit Monday review and quiz on Tuesday. I'd like the seed lab and the 2 photosynthesis by Wed. AP Biology
Well we made it through our lecture on photosynthesis. I hope everyone survived. Monday we will check our worksheets to make sure everyone is on the same page.We will also set up a lab on oxygen production in spinach. It's a sloppy one so be ready. QUIZ is Tuesday after which we will lecture variations in photosynthesis, read lab results and clean up. Wednesdays lecture will focus on introducing aerobic respiration with accompanying worksheets. Thursday we will set up lab on seed respiration and we will end the week reading lab results and lecturing anaerobic respiration. TEST the 27?

BIOLOGY
This week we move our focus from cells to the origin of life.Mondays lecture will cover theories ranging from Creation to spontaneous generation.We will apply what we learn to a reading strategy to finish class.Tuesday we will focus on the fossil record as a support for evolution...looking at how they form, types and dating techniques. Our supporting activity is on radioactive decay and it will probly become a homework assignment if we don't finish in class.
WED will be a QUIZ after which we will discuss the Geologic Time Scale and start our Evolutionary time line. This activity will take all day Friday and probably beyond.

This is the week that will test both your nerves and determination. Our topics are the cycles of photosynthesis and respiration. Good tthing you have a long weekend to rest up! Wed. we will read our chromatography results and lecture on the Calvin cycle. Thursday will be a photosynthesis lab. It's a sloppy on so be prepared. Friday we will have a photosynthesis QUIZ , read lab results and clean up!

Biology
Now that our cell portfolios are done we just have 1 more cell topic... The cell cycle. Wed. and Thurs. we will spend in lab working with the microscope to identify the stages of the cell cycle in onion root tips. Thursday will also be a quiz on those stages. Friday we will discuss when the cell cycle goes wrong and the problems that result. Worksheets are also due Friday!

AP BIOLOGY.
This week we are wrapping up our study of cells. enzymes as catalysts will be our final topic with "Mr. enzyme to the rescue" lab.Lab notebooks are due for Friday with the 5 cell related reports. Tuesday we will jeopardy review and Wednesday will be our test. Thursday we will introduce PHOTOSYNTHESIS... one of the toughest topics of the year so be prepared! Lecture material is difficultbut the numbers of lab reports will drop for the time being.

BIOLOGY
We are going to wrap up our discussion on chapter 3 cells with a lecture on Active transport. A transport quiz will be given on Wednesday so be ready. Cell portfolios are to be handed in on Thursday they count as a test score so be sure they are done with care and attention to detail. We will begin cell division processes later this week.

This week we will wrap up our microscope work and end chapter 1 with a test scheduled for Thursday. Tuesday we will finish our chapter 1 notes and watch a movie on the microscopic world. Wednesday will be jeopardy review game. On Friday we will start our next topic...The Cell. with lots of research and lab work to keep you thinking.

AP Biology
We are still struggling through organic chem topic that everyone loves so much! Good news is we will be moving on by Thursday. Bad news is we will have a test on Thursday(chapters 1-3). The next topic ...Cells will give you a breather with more biology focused work. Organic labs are all due Friday this week.

Biology
Monday this week will be our wrap up test on earthworms. Tuesday I'm planning on lecturing the CRAYFISH using the note sheet approach. Tuesday and Wednesday we will work with preserved crayfish to complete our lab activity. 50 point crayfish test will be on Friday.

AP Biology
Monday will be test day for Bacteria, virus and immunity. We will wrap up the course with some lecture time on animals. Our dissection focus will be a starfish with lab report due Friday as well as a short starfish quiz. Start reviewing for your final exam which will be given Wednesday May 20th . Anything from day 1 is fair game! We will review Monday and Tuesday prior to the test.

Well, this week we finally move on to our final topic of the year...Animals. Our weekly procedure will be somewhat different with note sheets provided and topics covered in 1 week. This week lecture will include general animal characteristics with special emphasis on phylum Cnidaria coral and jelly fish. I'm planning a test by Monday or Tuesday next week.Lab report will be due 4/28 Tuesday.

AP BIOLOGY
Our focus for the week will be DNAand will include models, composition, replication and ultimately conversion to protein through transcription and translation. We will be doing a few paper lab activities that don't require lab reports. Our electrophoresis activity will require a report and it will be due Monday 4/27

We will use these 7 days(time out for Easter Break) to finish up our discussion of ecology. 4/3 will start with a quiz and progress to lecture on survivorship curves.

Easter Tuesday & Wednesday will be discussions on Human impact on the environment. Thursday we will review and Friday 4/17 we'll have our unit test.

We will wrap up our topic of EVOLUTION before Easter Break with a test on TUESDAY 4/7. Lab notebooks are due before Easter Break and should include:biochemical evidence for evolution, orgami birds, Fishy Frequency, and Beaks of Finches. Easter Tuesday will be an intro lecture/ review on Classical genetics with time for Punnett squares. Wednesday we will concentrate on DNA as the basis for heredity and work on a reinforcement sheet. Thursday will be the structure of DNA including Replication, transcription/translation with a paper lab depicting each process.

Congratulations to most of you on the good Punnett square test results. This week we are narrowing our genetic discussions to humans and will be lecturing on topics from family pedigrees to blood types. Quiz will be Tuesday this week.We will be working on a blood typing lab Wed and Thursday. report will be due on Friday. I am offering the possibility of extra credit in the form of a family pedigree due March 16th.

Well we are knee deep in photosynthesis to start our week. There is no easy way to learn the material it is DIFFICULT so stay on top of things and don't try to cram. Monday we will lecture the Calvin cycle and set up the Chromotography lab Tuesday we will read results and complete several worksheets. Wednesday we will have a photosynthesis quiz Thursday we will lecture respiration and Friday we will set up our respiration lab with results due to be read Tuesday 3/17.The big respiration/photosynthesis TEST will be Thursday 3/19

By now you are all Punnett square experts...I hope. Monday this week will be our Punnett square review(square races). Tuesday is test day. The remainder of the week will focus on humans as subjects for genetic study. We will cover twins, blood typing, and family pedigrees. I'm planning a quiz on that material for Friday. We will have several activities throughout the week that may require finishing at home.

AP BIOLOGY
Last Friday wrapped up our discussion on cells. That means we are ready for a review and Test Monday and Tuesday this week. Following the review Monday there should be some time for independent study and/or lab completion. Notebooks will be collected Wednesday and should include: Coacervates, cell structures, cell fractionation, and both enzyme activities. The enzyme lab needs a conclusion as well as analysis questions. Our next topic will be energy pathways, respiration and photosynthesis. These are the 2 toughest topics of the year so stay on top of things.

Well the groundhog saw his shadow...6 more weeks of winter, there's a surprise. Our plan for the week is to complete chapter 9 lecture. We will look at Meiosis and the production of sperm and egg as well as mutations that can occur with their resulting conditions. Our quiz this week will be Thursday with writing prompt due Tuesday and karyotype activity due Friday.

AP BIOLOGY
This weeks focus will be organic chem and the production of polymers from monomers. Lab notebooks are to be handed in Monday. We will be working on a set of organic activities Wed and Thurs that will be due Mon Feb 9. There are several worksheets that will be assigned withWed as the due date.

This week we are continuing our discussion of DNA . We will look at the processes of transcription and translation and how protiens decide our traits. We are continuing our exploration of the properties of water that allow for life as we know it to exist. With each new lecture there will be a hands on reinforcement. In preparation for next Mondays Final exam we will be spending a lot of time reviewing. Please make use of the practice books I provided. I'll be out for jury duty at least Wednesday so don't waste time. We will jeopardy review Thursday and Friday if I"m back.

I bet you are sorry that we didn't take our bacteria/virus test before the holiday...but we didn't so that means we will have jeopardy review on Tuesday and our test Wednesday(even though I'll be at jury duty). Bacteria is one of my favorite topics to teach. I hope you enjoyed our culturing activity and discussions. Your labs must be completed and turned in today.We will complete bacteria lecture on Monday with a quiz on Tuesday. I plan on starting right in with VIRUS as our next topic...2 days of lecture should cover the topic well. So we are looking at review on Friday and test Monday 12/21 We will be able to squeeze one more topic in after Christmas before exams..

AP BIOLOGY
We will be ending our discussions of bacteriology and virology with a look at the bodies defenses against disease...the imune system. 2 days of Lecture, worksheets and movie will get us through Wedenesday. So reviewing on Thursday and Testing for Friday is my plan of the moment.

BIOLOGY
This week we will wrap up the study of Taxonomy. Our quiz is scheduled for Wednesday.We have to complete lecture on the development of the kingdoms and interpreting cladograms. A worksheet activity on cladograms will be due for Friday. Next week ,Monday, will be jeopardy review and crossword. Which means test will be Tuesday. So plan ahead and start studying.

AP BIOLOGY
Isn't evolution a fascinating topic? Our class discussions have been great! I appreciate your enthusiasm. We will broaden our topic to now include ...what constitutes a species and how behaviors influence patterns of evolution. We have one more lab...probably for Thursday which brings our 2 lecture topics to life. I'm planning a TEST for next Tuesday and will collect lab notebooks before break. This week starts off with our big unit test on Chapter 11. Hopefully everyone will wow me with their knowledge. I'm planning on starting our new topic ...Classification on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday we will work with a scientific classification tool called the "dicotomous key". There is a lab and a worksheet due on this topic for Friday. We will finish off the week researching cladograms and evolutionary trees. No tests or quizzes this week!

AP BIOLOGY.
We will be moving into our new topic of Natural selection. Starting Monday with Intro lecture and lab..Biochemical evidence in supprt of evolution. Lots of labs this week mixed in with our lectures. Orgami birds will demonstrate survival of the fittest, and fishy frequencies will explain why recessive traits aren't lost from a population. No tests this week but I will collect notebook next Monday.

Charles Darwin and the Theory of Natural Selection will be our topic for the week.I"m planning lectures for Monday and Wednesday this week They won"t be full period since we have labs that must be completed. Monday this week will be a lab day. We will try our luck with DNA extraction from cheek cells and gel electrophoresis. Tuesday we will lecture "genetics revisited" Some newer concepts and approaches will be covered and a reinforcement worksheet will be provided. Wednesdays lecture will be genetic mistakes and the problems that result. If time permits we will review 2nd period for our topic TEST on GENETICS planned for Thursday. Friday we will begin our new topic of Natural Selection .

This week we will begin our new topic...The origin of life and Evolution. Chapter 12 review 11-23 is due by Tuesday. Since this is a new topic we will be spending Monday- Wednesday in Lecture. What a week to try and plan... Thursday and Friday will be our only uninterrupted days. We are still focusing onthe Cell cycle and Meiosis so Monday(when everyone is back from the mine)we will lecture gamete formation. Tuesday(after 10:30 arrival) we will review and work on cell cycle lab.Wednesday we will complete labs and study guides. I plan on having a quiz on Thursday after which we will review classical genetics and punnett squares. Friday will be practice problems on those squares.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Columbus Day off and used it productively to prepare for Jeopardy Review. Wednesday will be our test on cellular transport and the cell cycle. Be prepared to draw! Thursday we will begin our new topic of the origin of life and evolution...Chapter 12 in you text. I won't be in school on Friday so the in class assignment is 12-28 from the chapter 12 review. Hand it in Monday at the latest.

We will continue our discussion of Respiration this week. Tuesday we will record and evaluate the results of our cellular respiration seed lab. Hopefully the long weekend didn"t cause too many problems. we will also lecture anaerobic respiration and complete the review sheets. Thursday will be a respiration quiz. We are continuing our work with cells this week focusing on the stages of the cell cycle. Tuesday will be a quiz on cellular transport processes(last weeks topic) after the quiz we will begin a lab on stage identification which will be due on Thursday. Thursdays lecture topic will be meiosis and srudents will construct Ven diagrams to compare mitosis and meiosis. We will end the week with a movie on the stages of division.
